Singer/songwriter CJ Solar is premiering the music video for “Hard One to Turn Down,” the title track off of his debut EP, exclusively with Nash Country Daily. The music video was recorded live during Whiskey Jam, a weekly concert series at Nashville’s Winners Bar & Grill.
“I wanted to film this video at Whiskey Jam because the environment there is so raw and authentic,” CJ tells Nash Country Daily. “It’s a stripped down performance, and the crowd is always packed, so you get to rock out with just your band and vocals and get loud and all up in the crowd. It’s always a good time.”
The new song, which has a Southern rock feel, waxes poetic about a guy constantly being reminded of his ex as he unsuccessfully tries to get over her and move on. “Pearl Jam always was my favorite band / We blew out the speaker in my driver door / Most Friday nights I turned you on with them / I can hardly stand them anymore / ‘Cause I know every word to every song / But I just think about you every time they come on / And it’s coming on / and that’s a hard one to turn down,” CJ kicks-off the song.
The Baton Rouge native, known for his songwriting—he penned “Between You And Me” on Justin Moore’s upcoming album and also wrote Jerrod Niemann’s “Blue Bandana”—said his new single is the total package. “The song encompasses everything I try to be as a songwriter—stylistically and lyrically. The phrase ‘hard one to turn down’ is how I want my music to be—loud and in your face and in a way where you just can’t turn it down.”
CJ is currently out on tour performing dates with Old Dominion, A Thousand Horses, The Randy Rogers Band, 38 Special and others. Check out the exclusive premiere of CJ’s video for “Hard One to Turn Down.”
